Hastings Old Town Parish

One Modern Parish, Two Medieval Churches

Welcome to the historic churches of St Clement and All Saints and our thriving parish

Thank you visiting our website. Hastings Old Town is an extraordinary place which attracted visitors even before 1066! Its two medieval churches have served the spiritual needs of visitors and residents alike since the late fourteenth century and continue to proclaim the same Christian message of hope in the rapidly changing and sometimes unsettling world of today.

We are a mainstream Church of England parish which offers traditional Anglican worship, classic hymns and orthodox theology. Nevertheless, we are always open to new ways of sharing faith and offering worship, not least our annual service each May which includes Morris dancing. After all, King David danced before the Lord!

Our churches welcome everyone from cradle Anglicans to those for whom Christian faith is new, from devout believers to those whom come with reverential doubt. As a community engaged upon life’s journey, we follow St Paul’s exhortation to rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those

who weep. As a community believing Jesus’ words that the truth shall set us free, we follow St Anselm’s quest of “faith seeking understanding”.

Whether you live within the parish boundary of the Old Town and Clive Vale or live further afield, we invite you to explore our website and join our community in person or virtually as we seek to explore life’s mysteries and questions.

What can I give Him,

Poor as I am?

If I were a shepherd

I would bring a lamb,

If I were a Wise Man

I would do my part,

Yet what I can I give Him,

Give my heart.

Christina Rossetti (1830-1894), a regular visitor to the Old Town and a worshipper in its churches.
