Baptisms

Thinking of getting your child baptised?

We would love to talk to you about baptism, often known as christening. If you are thinking of a baptism for your child, here’s what you can do:

  1. Find out more about baptism services in the Church of England by visiting this website: Church of England – Christening. There are answers to some the questions you may already have, as well as some information about some of the things you might need to think about in advance, such as the role of parents and godparents in baptism. There is also information about what to do if you don’t live in this parish.
  2. Come to one of our regular Sunday services (there are services at 8am and 10am every Sunday – click here). Since most baptisms take place in a Sunday service, it is helpful to see what a normal service looks like. Not only will you get to know the local church community, you will also meet the parish priest and others who may be involved in arranging your child’s baptism.
  3. When you visit, we will ask you for some details so that we can find a good time to meet with you to talk about the baptism service and also possible dates. Every family is different, so it might be useful to have one or two conversations, and/or to walk through the service in the church with parents and godparents.
