Night Church: This returns on Saturday, 21st May in St Clements from 9 p.m. to midnight and on the third Saturday of each month. Night Church is an opportunity to engage with folk who might not otherwise think of coming to church and who might want some company or to pray or to chat about a problem. St. Clement’s will be lit beautifully and refreshments (including bacon rolls) will be available. New helpers are always needed!
Hastings Borough elections: As befits the Borough Parish, we have three church members standing for election on Thursday: James Bacon, Nick Perry and Judy Rogers. It is unlikely that any other church in the deanery is able to equal that.
USPG: We have received a letter from USPG (United Society Partners in the Gospel) thanking the parish for its donation of £81.71 in 2021. Please ask Eve Douglas-Kellie if you would like a USPG box for your odd bits of change – it all mounts up.
Will we have a Summer Fayre? Evelyn Harding has now retired from this role and we need someone to co-ordinate the stalls and the advertising. Evelyn will be on hand to advise and guide. COULD THIS ROLE BE FOR YOU? It would not mean that you would also be responsible for organising other fund raising events.
Confirmation: The intention is to combine with St. John’s Pevensey Road later in the year for a confirmation service. Please let Paul know if you are thinking of being confirmed or would simply like to know more.

The Procession of Witness made an impressive and moving return in its first Good Friday enactment since 2019. We think that next year may be its fiftieth anniversary. Is anyone able to confirm this? We owe a big ‘thank you’ to Heather Leech who produced and directed the Procession and to everyone who took part.
Hastings Borough elections: As befits the Borough Parish, we have three church members standing for election on 5th May: James Bacon, Nick Perry and Judy Rogers. It is unlikely that any other church in the deanery is able to equal that.

Easter Day Flowers: We are very grateful to Eve Douglas-Kellie and everyone who has decorated the Church so beautifully for Easter.
On this Easter Day we shall return to having the Gospel procession as we did before Covid. This represents the taking of the Gospel to the people. We shall also return to the presentation of the Oblations – the bread and wine and collection – during the Offertory. This represents the gifts of the people for God’s use. This means that the collection bag will also make its return for folk who wish to make their financial offering in cash. If you make your offering via the Parish Giving Scheme, standing order or by contactless/on-line, your offering is still represented symbolically in the cash! We had hoped to restore communion in both kinds but the high covid numbers has meant a new provisional date of Whitsunday (5th June). Don’t forget that the priest must consume any remaining wine.
Choir Awards: Penelope, Sholto, and Willemina will be presented with their surplices and medallions and Beau and Shea with their surplices at the beginning of the 10 a.m. service. We also welcome Twinkle and Lily, our most recent recruits.
Low Sunday: We expect to have a Scout Parade next Sunday and we shall also be celebrating St. George’s Day.
Our new part-time parish administrator is Marjo Baars. Marjo has a strong background in administration and we look forward to her help in the smooth running of the parish. High Altar: We shall be using the High Altar at 10 a.m. today. This is more because of practicality than a question of transcendence versus immanence (God is both). We now have more choristers and servers than we have had for some years and movement in the chancel and nave altar platform is congested. Communication between priest and the servers/organist/choir will also be easier.

Lent Home Groups meet: Monday 7.30pm Ashburnham Rd., Wednesday 11.15am St. Helens Down, Wednesday 7.30pm, Old Town, Friday 8.00pm, Old Town.
We will be using the York Lent course, “On the Third Day”. This looks at the evidence and transforming implications of the Resurrection and how we can develop our personal discipleship as Easter people within a “risen Church”. This uses a course booklet and lively audio discussion. You may not always agree with what is said and in the friendly, informal atmosphere of the group, it is fine to say things that you are not sure about, to discuss half formed ideas. If individuals choose to say nothing, that is all right too. Full details and venues from Sue Phillips, Tel: 01424 882342
The Annual Parish Meetings will be on Wednesday, 27th April at 7 p.m. Please note this in your diaries and make an effort to attend.
Electoral Roll: You need to be on the church electoral roll to vote and/or stand for office at the AGM. There are currently 96 names on the roll and forms are available in church for newcomers. Let’s get back to 100 for the AGM!
Fundraising and Social Events: 18th March – Local naturalist and marine expert Judith Scott gives an illustrated talk about whales and dolphins at All Saints (7.30 p.m.) Admission £5 for adults, free for children and students. 23rd April- Mystery Car Treasure Hunt (2 p.m., starting venue tbc), 7th May – Easter Tea and Quiz (details tbc).
Evelyn Harding is stepping down as our lead fundraiser and we can all say “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Is there a volunteer to take the lead? Evelyn will be available to offer advice and guidance.
New Gift Aid envelopes are now available. Please note that these are for gift-aided donations made possible by the completion of the contact details on the envelope. Please do not use them for donations that are not gift-aided.
We have not brought round the collection plate during services for two years because of covid and we are grateful for offerings made via standing orders, the Parish Giving Scheme and on-line/contactless methods. The collection plate remains at the back of the church for cash offerings and envelopes. Thank you.
